In 1920, he established United Artists with Charles Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford, and William S. Hart. Vintage fountain pen signature, “Salt Lake City, D. W. Griffith,” adding a difficult to decipher line under his signature and then “Birth of a Nation,” on an off-white 5 x 3 page, dated May 13, 1943. A landmark in the history of American film, "Birth of a Nation" pioneered the introduction of numerous cinematic techniques and innovations. This is the first time we have ever seen a Griffith signature mentioning his film.
