Description

Bitter in retirement, Griffith signs for an admirer, adding the title of his classic Birth Of A Nation

Noted director. He perfected such cinematic devices as the flashback, the iris shot, the mask, and crosscutting. In 1920, he established United Artists with Charles Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford, and William S. Hart. Vintage fountain pen signature, “Salt Lake City, D. W. Griffith,” adding a difficult to decipher line under his signature and then “Birth of a Nation,” on an off-white 5 x 3 page, dated May 13, 1943. A landmark in the history of American film, "Birth of a Nation" pioneered the introduction of numerous cinematic techniques and innovations. This is the first time we have ever seen a Griffith signature mentioning his film. In fine condition, with collector’s typed notations to bottom, punch holes to left edge and unobtrusive mounting remnants to two edges. COA PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
