W. Emerson,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.25 x 6.75, January 2, 1848. Emerson writes from Manchester, England. In full: “Since I invited myself to see you on Christmas morning, & then refused the invitation as soon as you had confirmed it, I have been down to Worcester seeing & hearing many things. Now that I am home again here it is but for a day as I am to go up into Yorkshire tomorrow to spin again among lecture rooms. I would now willingly escape from this tedious task, but am holden to supposed engagements. Let us hope that after [?] these weeks a freer day will come, when I can accept your invitation which is not forgotten.” In fine condition, with usual mailing folds and some subtle, unobtrusive show-through.
