Hollywood History: from the estate of the director, Norman Taurog, terrific Boys Town lot

Boy’s Town, nominated for five Academy Awards, and winner of two (Spencer Tracy as Best Actor, and Best Original Story), this 1938 film was based on the true-life exploits of Father Flanagan, who founded a “Boys Town” in Omaha, Nebraska. Terrific lot of three authentic Boys Town items includes: director Norman Taurog’s (who received his second Academy Award nomination for this film) complete annotated, unsigned working script for the 1938 film, Boys Town. 9.25 x 11.25, 132 pages, bound in full navy morocco with tan inlay, and gilt design to upper cover and spine. The script is extensively annotated in pencil and thumbed throughout. Scene deletions, completions and dialogue changes are indicated throughout. From the Estate of Norman Taurog; a bronze-colored metal statue, 10” high depicts a boy seated on a rock with arms outstretched. The engraved base reads “To ‘Father’ Taurog from ‘Boys Town’ Crew’ and a label reading “Personal Property of Norman Taurog” is affixed to the bottom of the base; and, Norman Taurog’s folio album, measuring 17 x 22.5, with gilt lettering on the top cover reading “World Premiere Boys Town, Omaha Theatre, Wed. Eve. Sept 7th” and the gilt lettered “Norman Taurog” at lower right corner. Folio is comprised of 35 original photos from the premiere, including photos of the stars of the film, Spencer Tracy and Mickey Rooney; The Omaha Chamber of Commerce Journal (Boys Town Edition) as well as original issues of the Omaha World-Herald, with publicity regarding the film highlighted, promotional information regarding the film, etc. In very good condition, with wear and loss to hinges and head of spine of script; rubbing, scuffing and some minor gilt loss to folio cover.
