Description

Jack the Ripper suspect accepts a dinner invitation

English physician, the first to discover that nephritis is a systemic disease. Gull has been suggested as a suspect in the Jack the Ripper murders, related to an alleged conspiracy between British royalty and the Freemasons. Many historians have dismissed these ideas as utterly unreliable. A fictionalized Gull features prominently in both Iain Sinclair's White Chappell, Scarlet Tracings and Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell's From Hell. ALS, one page, 4.25 x 7, personal letterhead, April 12, 1872. A letter to Sir Henry Thompson, urogenital surgeon, accepting an invitation to dine on the 26th. In fine condition, with a couple of areas of light toning, a couple of small sections of surface loss on the reverse not affecting legibility in the least. R&R COA.
