First Viscount Montgomery of Alamein. British army officer who during World War II commanded the British victories over German forces in North Africa (1942) and the Allied advance through Normandy (1944). Lot of three signed items of the illustrious Montgomery includes: a terrific 1964 Christmas card, which opens to 12.5 x 8 and features an imprinted sentiment on the left and a wonderful photo of Montgomery with “My old friend Winston Churchill” (printed beneath the image). Montgomery has signed and inscribed in fountain pen on the left, “To Dr. and Mrs. Cook, Montgomery of Alamein”; an ALS dated July 28, 1948, The War Office, which reads in part: “My dear Kirkpatrick, You may like to see the attached…We have a front in Europe sretching from the Baltic to the Trieste, and we must be careful to treat this as one great problem”; and an ALS dated April 30, 1955, also to Kirkpatrick, which reads, in part: “Thank you for your letter. I am delighted to learn that two of my Operation Orders are to go to Abilene.” In overall very good to fine condition, with scattered mild toning and creasing to the TLSs, surface impressions and minor scuffing to the Christmas card.
