In part: “Your letter and m.s. at hand - very flattering…I had a good many night sweats over that picture…I was down at the Art Association last night for first time. I am incapable of appreciating those great masters and I am d__ glad of it…I think it is all a high toned bunco game. Bayre is another matter [Antoine Louis Bayre]…I think Bayre is a great man with a big G. Am painting away.
