Personal check, 8 x 3, filled out and signed by Cobb, payable to “Goldwater” for $50.00, June 14, 1956. Given the “even” amount, as might be expected of a political contribution, the recipient might well have been Arizona senator Barry Goldwater, who was then in the middle of his first term. Interestingly, when Goldwater ran for President against Lyndon Johnson in 1964, Cobb’s native Georgia was one of only six states to throw its electoral votes behind the ultra-conservative senator. In fine condition, with usual bank stamps and punch cancellations and light vertical crease, none touching the clear signature. COA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
