Description

English theologian and scientist who discovered oxygen. ALS signed “J. Priestley,” 8 x 3, one page, no date. In part: “As no manner of work was, by the second Commandment, to be done on the Sabbath, they were not content to forbid labour properly so called…but there were allowed to go to the synagogue on the Sabbath, a mile or two, which was therefore called a Sabbath day’s journey.” Accompanied by a postcard image of Priestley. In very good condition, with toning and trivial soiling to the signature area. The leaf bearing the signature, likely cut from an ALS, is almost invisibly stitched to the manuscript by white thread (could be easily removed). R&R COA.
