Description

German Field Marshal who earned the sobriquet “The Desert Fox” for his tactical genius as Commander of the Afrika Korps. In 1944 he was implicated in a plot to assassinate Hitler; given the choice of suicide or a trial, he ended his own life with poison. DS, signed “Rommel” in pencil, one page both sides, 8 x 11.5, September 24, 1941. An untranslated document in German in which the Desert Fox authorizes the awarding of the Distinguished Service Cross to five military personnel. In fine condition, with usual filing holes and light toning, a few marginal chips, scattered wrinkling, and show-through from text on reverse visible behind signature. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
