TLS as president, one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, June 27, 1936. President Roosevelt replies to Lewis A. Lincoln, Editor of the Hardware Trade Journal in Kansas City, Mo. In full: “Please accept my thanks for your letter of June twenty-fourth. It was a pleasure to receive it.” A photo copy of Mr. Lincoln’s letter accompanies this lot. It reads, in part: “Assuming that Barkely’s [sic] keynote met with your hearty approval, I say ‘pour it on ‘em, pour it on ‘em!’ Barkley did a good job. This is to assure you that I am right in there with you to the last ditch, just as I was back in 1932 and 1933. Pour it on ‘em, pour it on em!” This letter has a great association, since it is dated the day that Roosevelt delivered his famous acceptance speech at the 1936 Democratic national convention telling Americans that they had “a rendezvous with destiny” June 27 1936, Philadelphia.
