Kerouac pays Macy’s

Novelist; On the Road, The Dharma Bums, etc. His nonconformist, unedited style made him the leader and spokesman for the Beat generation. Born Jean-Louis Kerouac, a French-Canadian child in working-class Lowell, Massachusetts, he spoke a local dialect of French called “joual” before he learned English. He died at the age of 47, a result of alcoholism. Personal check, 6.25 x 2.75, filled out and signed by Kerouac, payable to Macy’s for $26.31, June 4, 1958. In very good condition, with a bisecting vertical fold, moderate show through from stamp on reverse, affecting portion of last name, pencil notation to lower left and expected holes.
