Description

The Lion shows the heart of the Tin Man as he helps his injured long-time housekeeper, “She was in the hospital about 2 weeks…She has a fracture of her left shoulder…I intend to pay her regular salary from the date that she fell.”

LS, three pages, 8 x 12.5, May 15, 1967. An apparent recounting and deposition of the events that led to the injury of Lahr’s housekeeper, Georgeanna Thompson. In part, “For the past 10 years her salary has been 31.00 per week plus her room and board as she also collected her social security and so was limited to earning 1200.00 per year…Miss Thompson went out. I told her to use the front entrance to the building because I was afraid the back entrance would be slippery…Mrs. Lahr and I arrived back home about 1:15 pm. Miss Thompson was in her room in great pain…I took care of her for six days and then she entered Trafalgar Hospital. She was in the hospital about 2 weeks…She has a fracture of her left shoulder…I intend to pay her regular salary from the date that she fell.” At the conclusion of the last page, Lahr writes, “I have read these three pages and find them true. Bert Lahr.” Lahr also signs the bottom of the first two pages and adds his initials twice. In fine condition, with punch hole and staple to top edge and expected folds. R&R COA.
