TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, United States Senate letterhead, August 14, 1944. A letter to a man in Topeka. In part: “I appreciated your letter of congratulations. I didn’t know I had so many friends until this happened.” Truman adds, in his own hand, “Hope you are in your usual good health. If I come to Kansas on this go around hope to see you.” In fine condition, with scattered light creasing. Three weeks before this letter, on July 21st, Truman was nominated for the office of vice-president at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Friends surely came out of the woodwork. On November 7, FDR was re-elected, and Truman was elected. Truman became president the following April 12 upon the passing of FDR. R&R COA.
