American prizefighter. The son of two former slaves, he was the first African American world heavyweight champion (1908–1915). Vintage fountain pen signature and inscription, “Jack Johnson, Former Heavyweight Champion to Arthur Howard, Champion 1908-1915, Salt Lake,” on an off-white 5 x 3 page, dated February 23, 1942.
