Scarce signature of the legendary and hugely controversial heavyweight champ

American prizefighter. The son of two former slaves, he was the first African American world heavyweight champion (1908–1915). Vintage fountain pen signature and inscription, “Jack Johnson, Former Heavyweight Champion to Arthur Howard, Champion 1908-1915, Salt Lake,” on an off-white 5 x 3 page, dated February 23, 1942. In fine condition, with small typed notation, punch holes to left edge and a couple small mounting remnants. COA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
