In the midst of the Atlanta Campaign, Lincoln and Seward “request Her Britannic Majesty” to welcome a Consul to England

DS as president, one page, 18 x 14.5, August 1, 1864. Appointment of George J. Abbot of the District of Columbia as Consul of the United States of America for Sheffield and Bradford. In part: “I do hereby pray and Request Her Britannic Majesty, Her Governors and Officers, to permit the said George J. Abbot fully and peaceably to enjoy and exercise the said office…” Signed “Abraham Lincoln” at the conclusion, and countersigned by Secretary of State Seward. In fine condition, with light toning from mirroring of seal over first name of bold signature, a few wrinkles and expected folds. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
