Irvine,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 8 x 9.5, August 11, 1782. “Letter to his brother, in part, “He tells me that Carlisle has undergone much improvement within these two or three years past -- I confess this account gave me pleasure; for I still feel a partiality for that spot . . . My agreeable indeception was attended with the most unequivocal proof of his entity, that of his going to be married I have to request, my good Sir, that you will procure for me two pair of beagles.” Reverse of second page bears an integral free-franked address panel, done in another hand. In very good condition, with scattered light foxing and toning, several pencil notations (regarding the letter being purchased from the Walter Benjamin collection) and expected folds.
