Description

Comedic actor/director. In 1921, at the peak of fame, he was accused of complicity in the death of actress Virginia Rappe after a wild party. He was acquitted, but the scandal ruined his career. By the time of this autograph, Arbuckle was still unable to work in film, but had found work as a comedy director for Buster Keaton and others under the pseudonym William Goodrich. In 1932, he found renewed success performing in shorts, but died in his sleep, at the age of 46, one day after signing a feature-film contract with Warner Brothers. Fountain pen signature, “Sincerely yours, Roscoe Arbuckle, Salt Lake City, May 9th, 1927,” on a white 5 x 3 page. In fine condition, with punch holes to left edge, two small areas of adhesive residue at the edges, and the collector’s typewritten notations. COA PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
