American writer. Through his poetry, prose, and drama he made important contributions to the Harlem Renaissance. His best-known works include Weary Blues (1926) and The Ways of White Folks (1934). Here, his poem, Youth, written entirely in his hand on a 3 x 5 page. In full: “We had tomorrow bright before us like a flame, yesterday a night-gone thing, a sun-down name, and dawn - today, broad arch above the road we came We march! Langston Hughes inscribed especially for Mr. Arthur L.
