British monarch who ushered in the Restoration in 1660 and ruled until his death in 1685. Unlike his father, Charles I, whose mismanagement of British affairs led to his own execution and the Protectorate of Oliver Cromwell, Charles II proved to be a powerful, capable leader. Ink signature, “Charles R,” on an off-white 3 x 1 slip. The verso bears what appears to be a contemporaneous notation, “17 Sept. 1660.” Accompanied by a nineteenth-century engraving. In fine condition, with light toning, very faint spotting, small piece of paper affixed to verso, and slight show-through from writing on verso, none affecting signature. R&R COA.
