He lived—and died—by the guillotine

French revolutionary and public prosecutor of the Revolutionary Tribunal. He personified the ruthlessness of the Reign of Terror and claimed among his victims Marie Antoinette and Georges Danton. After the fall of Robespierre, Fouquier-Tinville was himself tried and guillotined. LS in French, signed “A. Q. Fouquier,” one page, 6.5 x 8.25, no date. An untranslated letter related to the judgment and execution of an anti-revolutionary suspect, including mentions of the Revolutionary Tribunal and the Department of Paris. In fine condition, with light toning, a few tiny traces of foxing, and usual folds (away from signature). COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
