“Many thanks for your kind letter wishing us luck and merit on our Antarctic Expedition.”

First man to conquer the North Pole in an airplane and he also spanned the Atlantic Ocean. TLS signed “Byrd,” one page, 8.5 x 11, Byrd Antarctic Expedition letterhead, October 4, 1928. Letter of thanks from Byrd. In full, “Many thanks for your kind letter wishing us luck and merit on our Antarctic Expedition. I am sorry to hear of the hard luck you have had in your illness, and hope that soon you will have recovered entirely. Under the circumstances I do not want you to think of contributing to our fund, for the deficit is pretty well down now and we are going to pull through in fine shape.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
