TLS signed “G. Bernard Shaw,” one page, 7.5 x 6, January 18, 1909. Shaw turns down an invitation from C. H. Norman with a more-interesting-than-usual refusal. In full: “You have very inconsiderately fixed your Poe dinner for the date of the Labor Conference at Portsmouth, which I have to attend as Fabian delegate. I am sorry, as I am interested in Poe (see my article in the current Nation) and I always find Robert Ross a particularly entertaining ruffian.” Ross was one of Oscar Wilde’s closest friends and his literary executor. Matted and framed with a portrait of Shaw to an overall size of 16.5 x 10. In fine condition, with usual folds, faint toning and spotting, and typing a little light. R&R COA.
