ALS, two faintly-lined pages, 6 x 9.5, Skowhegan House letterhead, September 3, 1918. In part: “On Aug. 24 you sent me a check for $600, which I have first now received. This check overpaid me $200, owing to the fact that I was called to leave the circuit after speaking at…I received word the following Thursday and put in 3 days of the week ending Aug. 31. So you were owing me then $100…Probably this letter is wholly unnecessary, but I wanted you to know that I have just received the check and understand that it paid me for more two days on which I did not speak.” In very good condition, with scattered toning and creasing, bit of edge wear, but writing is legible. An interesting letter in light of the later remarks of Democratic leader, William Gibbs McAdoo, called Harding's speeches "an army of pompous phrases moving across the landscape in search of an idea."
