Pioneer and hunter, one of the greatest frontiersmen of all time, founder of Boonesboro, he also led settlers safely through the Cumberland Gap. Unsigned handwritten document, one page, 8 x 3.5, dated February 27, 1784. A partial land survey, written in Boone’s hand, reads, in part, “The expenses of the Within land of Mr. Winston’s Survey Registers fees,” with the total coming to £26.17.8 1/2. Document is affixed to an 8 x 5.25 off-white sheet, with a letter of certification from Lyman Draper, the first and most important Boone biographer. Draper writes, “I certify that the preceding payment is in the hand of Col. Dan’l Boone - well known to me to be such - & obtained in 1851 from Col. Nathan Boone of Missouri, the last surviving child of Dan’l Boone.” Document is accompanied by a Novermber 24, 1930 sales receipt from autograph dealer Adeline Roberts, who sold the document for $10.00. In good condition, with scattered toning and soiling, an x-shaped water stain, some other text done in another hand under Boone’s bold writing, light show through from text on reverse and a few folds.
