TLS, one page, 8 x 10.25, United States Senate Committee on Military Affairs letterhead, April 5, 1943. A letter to Roscoe Turner, in response to Turner’s offer of his services “in handling your aerial arrangements.” Truman writes, in part: “Certainly did appreciate your note and I think you really have something on that flying experience proposition. I doubt very much whether I will be able to make the trip, but I think four members will make it. I certainly appreciate your offer and will discuss it with the boys who will get to go.” Accompanied by an unsigned carbon of Turner’s letter, in which he writes: “I want to be sure that you do not get into the hands of some inexperienced pilot…In other words…we can’t afford to lose you!” In fine condition, with usual letter folds, with one fold touching bottom of signature. Turner was America's premier speed flyer, and was a multiple winner of the Harmon and Henderson Trophies, and received a special Distinguished Flying Cross by Act of Congress in 1952. R&R COA.
