Description

Upton Sinclair correspondence archive: “The world needs to understand Communism and Socialism now, and not later”

Influential Pulitzer Prize–winning author of The Jungle and other classics. Interesting lot of seven TLSs and two TLSs to author and Soviet scholar Albert Rhys Williams, most signed “Upton,” various lengths and formats, 1918–1957. Some highlights: “I am waiting for the proofs of The Wet Parade…. I will write about the Danashew case and do what I can…. There are lunatics in all movements. They make us lots of trouble as I know from sorrowful experience…. You may be able to give up some very important help in Moscow…. I have written … An autobiography of the first thirty years of my life. I have put off publishing it, because it worries my mother, and she will not last much longer…. Your experiences have been unusual, and your excuse for telling them is that the world needs to understand Communism and Socialism now, and not later.” In fine condition, with usual mailing folds, toning, wrinkling, and a few scattered stains and notations in other hands. R&R COA.
