Extraordinary lot of six books, each signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint on the verso of the front free end page, “To Nicole with Best Wishes from Dr. Seuss.” The titles represented are as follows: How the Grinch Stole Christmas, And to Think that I Saw It on Mulberry Street (with dust jacket), Scrambled Eggs Super! (with dust jacket), If I Ran the Zoo, I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew (with dust jacket), and If I Ran the Circus. The consignor notes that her father, an employee at Random House, obtained these signatures directly from Seuss circa 1970. Because Seuss’ books are so well loved, vintage copies typically show signs of heavy use, including crayon markings, taped bindings, and worse. The fact that this set is so clean and well preserved and that each book is signed—with “matching” inscriptions, no less—makes this a once-in-a lifetime opportunity for the advanced collector of Seuss or children’s literature. In fine condition, with a touch of rubbing to extremities and rubbing and light edge wear to jackets. R&R COA.
