DS, one page, 7.25 x 4.5, July 13, 1774. Handwritten bill of exchange instructing payment to “Mr. Timothy Newell on order three hundred and sixty five pounds sterling.” Nicely signed at the conclusion in black ink, “John Hancock.” Accompanied by an 1864 ALS from Franklin Hancock, stating “Enclosed is an autograph of John Hancock…I consider it one of the best, on Bills of Exchange, merchants generally give their best autographs.” In very good condition, with scattered light toning and soiling, expected folds, a couple small areas of paper loss from ink erosion, not affecting signature, chip to lower left corner, and a few slight fold separations.
