Description

Early land grant signed by Jefferson and Madison, bearing a probable full Jefferson signature

Vellum DS signed by Jefferson as president, “Th: Jefferson,” and Madison as Secretary of State, one page, 15.5 x 9, March 10, 1807. President Jefferson grants Samuel Davis of Pennsylvania a plot of land for “Lot or Section number thirty-three of Township number Sixteen in Range Number Three.” Signed at the conclusion in black ink by Jefferson and countersigned by Secretary of State James Madison. Evidence suggests that the full “Thomas Jefferson” at the top of the document is also in Jefferson’s hand, a highly uncommon occurance as he almost always abbreviated his first name! In very good condition, with both signatures a shade or two light, but completely legible, intact, but toned seal, moderate storage folds, some scattered light toning and handwritten text light, but legible. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
