Neil was known as “The Duck Man,” as he was the primary artist for Donald Duck. He headed the animation team that won an Academy Award for Der Furher’s Face (1942), a wartime propaganda film featuring Donald Duck. Original vintage signed pencil sketch, a “working drawing” of Donald Duck, circa 1930s/early 1940s in blue and black pencil on an off-white 7 x 8 sheet, matted to an overall size of 10 x 12. In fine condition, with scattered light creasing not affecting overall presentation. Although not dated, the way the sketch is drawn, with bold lines and sketchy over-drawing to denote movement is a technique only used for preliminary sketches for animation cels. Once Neil had left Disney after the war, there would be no reason for him to draw Donald in this technical fashion. R&R COA.
