Description

A message from the sky! Scarce unaddressed signed poster, dropped by Lindbergh from the Spirit of St. Louis to towns he was unable to visit on his 1927 tour

Vintage unaddressed poster, signed “Charles A. Lindbergh,” 19 x 26, which would have been dropped by Lindbergh while flying over a town in The Spirit of St. Louis after his historic flight, apologizing for not being able to stop. Poster reads, “Greetings: Because of the limited time and the extensive itinerary of the tour of the United States now in progress to encourage popular interest in aeronautics, it is impossible for the ‘Spirit of St. Louis’ to land in your city. This message from the air, however, is sent to you to express our sincere appreciation of your interest in the tour and in the promotion and expansion of commercial aeronautics in the United States. We feel that we will be amply repaid for all our efforts if each and every citizen in the United States cherishes an interest in flying and gives his earnest support to the air mail service and the establishment of airports and similar facilities. The concerted efforts of the citizens of the United States in this direction will result in America’s taking its rightful place within a very short time as the world leader in commercial flying.” Signed in black ink at the conclusion by Lindbergh. After Lindbergh returned from his historic overseas flight, he began a flying tour of the US. He landed in every state and visited nearly eighty different cities. In good to very good condition, with old storage folds, one lightly affecting part of signature, a few stray ink marks to signature, mirroring of signature at top from premature folding, mild toning, heavy wrinkling, slightly uneven right edge, and a few water stains. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
