Three months before being the first to publicly read the Declaration of independence, John Nixon signs a pay order

On July 4th, Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, on the 5th it was ordered that it should be proclaimed in each of the United States and at the head of the army. At that time and place, by popular appointment, John Nixon read and proclaimed to the people publicly for the first time the Declaration of Independence. DS, signed “John Nixon Chm.,” one page, 8.25 x 6.5, March 14, 1776. Nixon, as Chairman of the Pennsylvania Committee of Safety, directs payment of an order, written above by Francis Wade, who has requested payment of sixty–six pounds and change to Captain John Hamilton, the amount of his rations and six others. In very good condition, with tape repairs to fold separations on reverse, mounting remnants on reverse and overall light toning. R&R COA.
