Singer who launched a career in Vaudeville, where she was working in 1918, when Enrico Caruso discovered her and persuaded her to join the Metropolitan Opera. Her debut occurred in Verdi's La Forza del Destina as Leonora. Appealing vintage sepia matte-finish 8 x 10 photo of Ponselle in a white gown, leaning on a chair, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Ethel Brown, Sincerely, Rosa Ponselle, 1937.” In fine condition, with mild rippling to the left and right borders, a couple of small corner creases, and a couple of areas of trivial soiling.
