Description

Inventor of the jet engine. Lot of five signed items includes: a book photo with text, signed by Frank Whittle in 1984 in which he also makes a handwritten correction to the text; a book photo of the first flight engine, signed “Frank Whittle 2 Feb. ‘84” in black ink; a textured finish 7 x 5 photo of a younger Whittle at his desk, signed and dated “1 July ‘84” in black ink; a check made out to Whittle for $680.00 with a notation in the memo section, “Winston Churchill letter,” endorsed “F. Whittle” on the reverse; and, a 8.5 x 11 typed souvenir reproduction of the day’s events of April 12, 1937, which included, in part, “”Valve A taken off and tested. Found to be leaking 15 gallons an hour at 100 lb./sq.,” Decided to use separate high capacity pump driven by D.C. Motor,” signed “Frank Whittle” in black ink at the conclusion.
