Fabulous lot of seventeen TLS, each signed “Joan” or “Joan Crawford,” the majority on her personal pale blue stationery, two on embossed Christmas letterhead, all dated between February 20, 1957, and March 6, 1969. Excerpts include: “I am so sorry the policeman got in the way of your camera, but maybe you got a better result than you expected. If it is at all possible I will be glad to let you know when you can take some pictures…” From March of 1957: “We had intended going to the opening of Orpheus Descending, but due to the fact that my husband had to undergo surgery last Monday we had to cancel our plans” From April of 1959: “I am so deeply grateful to you for your message of sympathy. Bless you for giving me comfort in my time of need.” From February of 1960: “No, I do not have any fan clubs, as I travel so much and it would be impossible for me to devote much time…I have been working very hard on the Pepsi-Cola Convention. I am the official hostess.” From August of 1960: “My children and I are in Connecticut for a week, having a delightfully happy rest. It is so quiet and peaceful here.” From October of 1960: “I’m so pleased that you saw Joanie last weekend. She is a dear, blessed angel, and I’m glad she was on Perry Como’s show again. Aren’t you sweet to see Mildred Pierce so often on television.” From September 1963: “Enclosed is the photo for Bob. I am terribly sorry that I have been so slow in sending it to you, but this has been an extremely busy summer for me. I hope you understand.” From July of 1969: “Thank you from my grateful heart for the fine and beautiful article you did on me in Movie Stars & TV Close-Ups. I love it and I’m so flattered.” From March 1969: “I would dearly love to sit on the dais at the banquet honoring Hubert Humphrey, but unfortunately, I will be in England then, making a film. I am so sorry that I cannot be with you.” Accompanied by fourteen of the original mailing envelopes.
