During the 1930s Carroll gained a large fan base due to her singing and dancing abilities. She was reported to have received more fan mail than any of her Hollywood peers of the same era. She was nominated for an Oscar for The Devil’s Holiday in 1930 and appeared in both films and television until her death from a heart attack at age 60. Vintage matte-finish 9 x 12 photo of the comely Carroll on stage and festooned in a white feather boa, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “For Gittelson Brothers, fondest wishes, Nancy Carroll.” In fine condition, with adhesive residue on the reverse from a previous mounting, mild edge and corner wear, bit of trivial soiling and a crease to upper left corner.
