Description

“[A.P.] Hills entire division consisting of about sixteen thousand men left here yesterday to reinforce the hero of the south Old Stonewall Jackson.”

Historic lot of nine letters written by soldiers to various family members. A sample, written by J. P. Jones, in part: “It is the impression here that the next fight will come off in the central Fallroad towards Richmond. Old Stonewall is at Gordonsville with his invincible legion who stands like a rock of adamant firmly watching every movement of the enemy. [A.P.] Hills entire division consisting of about sixteen thousand men left here yesterday to reinforce the hero of the south Old Stonewall Jackson.” An extremely interesting look into their lives on the front lines. Full transcripts of each letter are available. In very good condition, with typical age wear and letter folds. R&R COA.
