Defensive player for the Arizona Cardinals who, in response to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, abandoned his professional sports career and enlisted in the United States Army. He died in combat in Afghanistan; probably by friendly fire. Tillman was posthumously promoted to the enlisted rank of Corporal and awarded the Silver Star.
