Nice vintage 8 x 10 sepia photo of Babe Ruth with his arm wrapped around Lou Gehrig, from a ball game between the Bustin’ Babes and the Larrupin’ Lou’s, signed in fountain pen “Babe Ruth,” and “Lou Gehrig, Oct. 23, 1927,” each signing under a pre-printed facsimile signature and sentiment of the two legends. Following the 1927 season, Ruth & Gehrig embarked on their famous 2-team barnstorming tour. A largely profitable trip, it is said that Lou Gehrig earned more on the barnstorming trip than he made while playing for the Yankees. Unfortunately, the trip would also be the beginning of the end for the friendship between the two most feared hitters in the Majors. Precious few of these magnificent photographs have come to market and are prized by baseball historians. In fair to poor condition, with both signatures light but legible, having been affected by water staining to lower portion of photo, scattered paper loss to borders, having been professionally repaired and/or restored, some light creasing and scattered surface marks. There is also a light ink notation located below Gehrig’s signature. Though noted, the imperfections mentioned do not diminish the desirability of this historic baseball treasure. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from PSA/DNA, Mike Gutierrez/Global and R&R COA.
