Very unusual color satin-finish 10 x 7.75 photo of Ronald and Nancy Reagan shown peeping out from inside what appears to be a bomb shelter (or the remains of same) with expressions of awe and curiosity on their faces, signed and inscribed in black felt tip “To Wendy - The Truth is out There! Ronald Reagan.” Wendy, the inscribee, worked for the Reagan foundation as a photographer. She was also involved with publicity work for the television series “The X Files” and Reagan’s inscription appears to be a reference to the show. Reagan himself was known to be extremely superstitious with an interest in extraterrestrial life. In 1987, Mikhail Gorbachev commented, “At our meeting in Geneva, the U.S. President [Reagan] said that if the earth faced an invasion by extraterrestrials, the United States and the Soviet Union would join forces to repel such an invasion. I shall not dispute the hypothesis, though I think it’s early yet to worry about such an intrusion.” A great piece for display and a fascinating, albeit disturbing, association.
