HAWTHORNE, THE AMERICAN CONSUL AT LIVERPOOL, SIGNS PAPERS FOR A SHIP

Author of Twice Told Tales, The Scarlet Letter, and The House of the Seven Gables. DS, signed “Nath. Hawthorne,” one page both sides, 8 x 13, March 21, 1854. As U. S. Consul to Liverpool, England, Hawthorne verifies a Customs certificate from John Goodwin concerning the American ship Yorkshire, which is printed above the Consul’s Certificate. In very good condition, with moderate document folds, slight pooling of ink in last name of signature, intact seal and some scattered light toning and wrinkling.
