The lot includes: H[enry] W[ard] Beecher (clergyman and brother of Harriet Beecher Stowe); Mary A. Livermore (social reformer); Julia Ward Howe (social reformer, writer, poet); Henry Wilson (Vice President of the United States 1873–75); a signed quotation from Charles Sumner (U.S. Senator from Massachusetts, perhaps best known for his removal from the Senate due to his antislavery stance); Schuyler Colfax (Vice President of the United States 1869–73); Gideon Welles (Secretary of the Navy under Lincoln and Johnson); Hugh McCulloch (Secretary of the Treasury under Lincoln and Johnson); H[annibal] Hamlin (Vice President under Lincoln); William P. Fessenden (American statesman); Simon Cameron (Secretary of War under Lincoln, March 1861–January 1862); a brief ANS signed “Jas. Harlan” and dated March 1864 (Senator and a good friend of the Lincoln family. In 1868 his daughter, Mary Eunice Harlan, married Robert Todd Lincoln) and one other. In overall fine condition, with expected toning, the occasional crease and adhesive residue to the reverse of a few. R&R COA.
