Doyle laments his uncertain return to his homeland: “I fear however that it will become years before the health of my wife will allow us to live in England again.”

British writer, and creator of Sherlock Holmes, the best-known detective in literature and the embodiment of ratiocination, or deductive reasoning. Doyle himself believed in fairies and was very interested in occultism. Sherlock Holmes stories have been translated into more than 50 languages. In 1920, Doyle was the highest paid writer of his time. ALS signed “A. Conan Doyle,” one page, 4.25 x 7, Grand Hotel Belvedere, Davos-Platz, Switzerland, letterhead, no date. In full: “Dear Sir, Many thanks for your kind letter and invitation. I fear however that it will become years before the health of my wife will allow us to live in England again. With kind regards, Yours very truly.” Archivally triple matted and framed with a wonderful portrait of Doyle writing, to an overall size of 26 x 22.
