Description

Brahms defends Clara Schumann: “This simple and clear explanation has rid the world of this gossip”

Famed German composer and performer who successfully combined romantic music with classical spirit, and is best remembered for his four outstanding symphonies, his Violin Concerto, Piano Concerto and the German Requiem. ALS in German, signed “J. Br.” A nice handwritten letter, written on a folded 7 x 4 sheet of paper, the two pages side by side. Apparently in reference to a misunderstanding between his correspondent and Clara Schumann. In part, “You won’t mind if I send your letter to Frau Sch., and with it express my delight that this simple and clear explanation has rid the world of this gossip.” The letter is dated May 5th, 1890, presumably by the recipient. In fine condition, with a few pin holes to the left of the text and two vertical creases through the letter. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
