TLS signed “Charles M. Schulz,” one page, 8.5 x 11, November 5, 1947. Letter of compliment and encouragement to an up and coming cartoonist. In full, “Your comic strip, ‘Priscilla’s Pop,’ has been running now in our St, Paul Pioneer Press for several months now, and I feel that it is about time that I express my extreme liking for the strip and its little group of characters. In these days of Chic Young imitations it is refreshing to find someone who can take the family angle and find a different slant for humor. You are to be commended highly. It is also noticeable that you were the first in a very long line of cartoonists to discover that little boys sometimes have the habit of standing around with both of their arms entwined above their heads as you always show the neighbor boy character doing. Here you have outdone yourself completely. I have no idea as to how many papers run your work, Mr. Vermeer, but I am certain that if you keep up your present high standard, you and N. E. A. should be soon nearing that ‘top ten’ rating. I know we here in St. Paul are certainly behind you.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope and an original hand inked four panel daily comic strip of Priscilla’s Pop, dated June 14, 1947, signed in the last panel by cartoonist Al Vermeer, on a 20.5 x 6.5 piece of artist’s cardstock. In fine condition, with two horizontal mailing folds. R&R COA.
