H.G. Wells advises “...But for God’s sake don’t hold any hopes of great profit...”

English novelist and social commentator; first important writer of science fiction in English. Works include The Time Machine, The Invisible Man, and The War of the Worlds. ALS, 4.5 x 7, three pages on two adjoined sheets, personal letterhead with embossed address, no date, to an unidentified recipient in Wells’ difficult to decipher hand. In part: “Tell your religious development and your political and social ideas but keep an alert eye open for little ‘living’ anecdotes, little touches of color...The table and chairs and accommodations of the house in which you have left...Its a good rule for making...put in a meal. I think you do stick at it...There might be some sale for just, as a piece of [?] humanity...But for God’s sake don’t hold any hopes of great profit...There are a hundred disappointments for me...success is...” In fine condition, with faint edge toning, a few small areas of trivial discoloration.
