Bandleader and composer nicknamed “The March King.” A brilliant man who sought to reach a mass audience through his music, he formed his own band in 1892 and carefully selected the music to include in his band’s repertoire. TLS, two pages, 8.5 x 5.5, Office of Sousa and his Band letterhead, October 7, 1925. In a cover letter to a fan in Massachusetts, in full: “Replying to yours of the 25th ult. Mr. Sousa has asked that the enclosed be sent to you.” The enclosed quote signed by Sousa states, “Talent combined with sincerity means success.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
