Description

Eight shares of Standard Oil signed by two business legends: John D. Rockefeller and Henry Flagler

Entrepreneur who entered the oil industry at the age of twenty-four and worked ruthlessly to unify it into the Standard Oil Trust. DS, one page both sides, 12 x 7.75, Standard Oil Trust letterhead, June 16, 1887. Attractive certificate for eight shares of Standard Oil Trust for U. P. Palmer, signed at the bottom by Rockefeller and countersigned by Henry Flagler. Flagler was called “the builder of the east coast Florida.” He set out to make Florida the “Newport of the South” by making it easier to get to—via rail—and building grand hotels to lure wealthy vacationers. Detailed vignette of the Capitol Building at the top, a September 21, 1899, cancellation stamp to left corner, some light wrinkling and toning and receipt portion affixed to left end, otherwise fine condition. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
