ALS from Henry Light-horse Lee regarding Stratford Lands from the purchase of which he is in hopes of making up his loss for Maryland contracts

'Light-Horse Harry,” father of Robert E. Lee, was a Revolutionary War hero whose skill as the leader of “Lee's Legion” captured British posts in New York and in the South. He served in the Continental Congress, and ratified the Constitution as a Virginia delegate. While Governor, he put down the Pennsylvania's Whiskey Rebellion. ALS signed “H. Lee,” one page, 7 x 9, February 22. Letter to Col. George Washington. In full, “Yesterday I returned home after visiting the two lower courts. Great is the effort made against me - my friends are not so zealous. Yesterday the enclosed ltr. Was forwarded under cover to me with a request to forward it to you. If you reply I can send it tomorrow. I wish to see you, but cannot spare time out of the little I have free from election calls. Tendalls paper I want, and your ultimatum about the Stratford Lands on which I count and from which by exertion I hope to make up some of the loss produced by our negotiation.” Address panel on reverse is also in Lee’s hand. In fine condition, with bold text and signature, some mild toning and spotting and expected folds. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
