World War II bomber pilot and famous brother. Joe Kennedy was the eldest son of Joseph Kennedy the older brother of future president John F. Kennedy. He left Harvard Law School to join the Navy and served as a bomber pilot in World War II. He died when his plane, loaded with explosives for an attack on German V-2 rocket site, exploded shortly after takeoff. He was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross and the Air Medal for heroism. Rare ALS signed “Joe,” one page, 8.5 x 11, 1943. Letter to dancer Billy Reardon. In full: "Dear Willie: Hope you are keeping an eye on my gals. I saw Rosie Fiske the other day and she sends you her love. Hope you have a swell Xmas." The body of the letter-writing area is decorated with a printed drawing of an eagle carrying a shield and anchor over a map of England with the caption "Christmas Greetings From England 1943".
